Vincent Manguno (American, b. 1925)
Jacob Vincent Manguno, born April 18, 1925 in the lower Ninth Ward
of New Orleans, is as cosmopolitan a figure ever to have graced the
New Orleans art scene. His art has been exhibited locally and nationally,
and he is represented in the permanent collection of the New Orleans
Museum of Art. His portrait of Pan American Life founder Crawford
Ellis hangs in the Founders Room of the New Orleans Country Club.
President of the first graduating class from the New Orleans Academy
of Art (then located at Orleans and Dauphine Streets in the French
Quarter) in 1949, he pursued a career in graphic design and illustration.
He became president of the Art Directors and Designers Association
of New Orleans and was widely recognized as one of the nation's foremost
corporate designers.
At a time in life when most would have settled for success, he began
a new career as a fine art dealer, opening the Vincent Mann Gallery's
first French Quarter location in 1972. For nearly 40 years since,
he has traveled widely in pursuit of fine paintings, and earned an
international reputation for his discerning eye for quality and lasting
value. In 1978, the French government awarded him the prestigious
L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres medal of honor in recognition of his
achievements in promoting French art and culture in the United States.
His fresh, unique artworks have a timeless quality drawn from five
decades of dedication to the pursuit of aesthetic excellence. |
